Morgantown, WV – West Virginia quarterback Will Grier has been surrounded by preseason hype including talk around the Heisman Trophy and yesterday he met with the media to discuss the hype.
“I think it’s great for the university, I’d love to bring a Heisman to Morgantown. But the main thing I’m focused on is going 1-0 every week.”- Grier said.
After breaking his finger vs Texas in late November, many were concerned if Grier would ever be the same quarterback again. Coach Holgorsen has been quoted saying that, “he looks 100% and is slinging it pretty good out there.” So, with Grier healthy and virtually the entire offensive cast returning, it could shape up to be a Heisman type of year for him.
It has been some time since the Mountaineers have had a legitimate contender for the Heisman, as Grier looks to become the first Mountaineer since Major Harris (1989) to be invited to New York as a finalist.
Grier also spoke on how he felt the freshman class is coming along,
“I’ve been impressed with the freshman class as a whole. Obviously got some good transfers in that have experience also. Receiving wise, it’s nice to have some more numbers out there. We went from having eight to nine guys to about four deep at each position.”
West Virginia wide receiver Gary Jennings also had choice words about the freshman class saying, “They all look good. The good thing I’m seeing out of them is that they’re eager to work. They’re always doing the extra drills and patterns.”
The 2018 recruiting class was rated the highest class that Dana Holgorsen has had at West Virginia across all national recruiting services. Having two veterans rave about them is certainly a good sign.
