Don’t count Pat McAfee among the WVU fans losing hope. Even after watching West Virginia get handled 34-12 by Penn State, McAfee made it clear he still believes in the Mountaineers.

“West Virginia, obviously, a tough start,” said McAfee while recapping how some note worthy programs performed in Week 1. He then brought up the weather delay and offered that as an excuse, granted with a smile, before someone in his crew shouted “playing well before that” sarcastically.

McAfee then reiterated his confidence before wrapping up the segment. “Penn State might be a wagon. I ain’t worried about West Virginia one bit.”

McAfee’s thoughts are always relevant, but even more so after talking so much leading up to kickoff and turning up the dial on the hype around campus thanks to bringing his show on the road to Morgantown on Friday.

But regardless what McAfee said or did before the game, he did put his money where his mouth was, too.

Pat McAfee ended his full show all about the past, present and future of WVU with the biggest announcement of all. McAfee closed his live show on the campus of West Virginia University by announcing a big donation to WVU’s NIL collective Country Roads Trust.

Pat McAfee Announces Major Donation to WVU’s NIL Collective

“I will be donating $1M to the West Virginia NIL Collective from the entire team I played alongside,” said McAfee with WVU director of athletics on stage. A donation of that significance can be an obvious game changer for an athletic department in this current landscape of college sports.

It’s now up to Neal Brown and his team to prove McAfee right. Next up for the Mountaineers is a home game minus any national attention against Albany and then a trip to Pittsburgh for the Backyard Brawl.
