Jahiem White Hints at Future After Chad Scott’s WVU Departure

Chad Scott’s departure has made WVU fans worried star running back Jahiem White would following him out of West Virginia. But even though White has love for his now former coach, it appears as if he’s going to stick around.
“The response is to go harder and be better. So let’s respond… WVU football,” posted White on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.

This comes days after his first reaction to the news Scott accepted a job with Texas. “Thank you for making me a better person. It’s bigger than football,” White said to Scott.
White’s initial statement may look brief, but that’s his nature. His words also speak volumes for his feelings about the situation. It’s clear White understands Texas is a job Scott can’t pass up, especially if he’s able to go there without having to serve in a lower level position first.
Chad Scott came to WVU in 2019 along with former head coach Neal Brown and has been a well-liked and effective running backs coach ever since. He has also served as co-offensive coordinator (2019-21), run game coordinator (2022-23) and offensive coordinator (2024). Scott was the team’s interim head coach for the Frisco Bowl last month.
Since coming to WVU, Scott helped develop Leddie Brown into a back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher in 2020 and 2021 and recruited and developed the tandem of CJ Donaldson and Jahiem White that produced over 1,500 combined yards each of the last two seasons. Donaldson announced his transfer to Ohio State in December.
Scott did all of his work at WVU the old-school way, not making use of the transfer portal. All of WVU’s running backs during his tenure have been high school recruits that Scott signed and developed. That includes Donaldson, who came to WVU as a tight end and was moved to running back.
Scott was initially announced as being retained by Rich Rodriguez before receiving the offer from Texas.
White led West Virginia in rushing each of the last two seasons, running for 842 yards and four touchdowns in 2023 and 845 yards and seven scores during the 2024 season.
He currently has over 1,900 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns so far in his WVU career, a career that’s not over yet.
PFF even White listed at No. 10 on their list of the best running back who decided to stay with their school instead of hitting the transfer portal or exiting for the NFL Draft.
