Current Arizona State guard, and once-WVU guard Jose Perez stirred the pot on social media after West Virginia’s loss to St. John’s on Friday night. Perez, who mutually parted ways with WVU during the fall, showed love to SJU assistant Steve Masiello, who was his coach at Manhattan.

Perez went as far as to say thank you to Masiello for defeating West Virginia.

Perez went on to respond to multiple West Virginia fans that questioned the post. Perez mentioned that he’s in a better situation and that he has zero problems with the Mountaineer fanbase. Former WVU F Emmitt Matthews Jr. responded to Perez.

“Move on bro,” Matthews said to Perez.

Perez had a wild journey during his 11 months at West Virginia. Perez transferred to WVU in October 2022 but did not receive a waiver to play during the season. Even after Bob Huggins resigned in June, Perez did test the trasnfer portal waters but decided to stay with interim HC Josh Eilert. After a disagreement about not attending study hall, the two parties decided to part ways and Perez transferred to Arizona State.

Perez is averaging 12.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists for the Sun Devils through six games.
