It may seem like West Virginia is vulnerable coming off a tough loss and in the midst of drama, but Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman isn’t about to underestimate the Mountaineers.

Klieman is actually so aware of West Virginia brings to the table that he admitted a key Mountaineers is one of his favorite players to watch. The leader of the Wildcats explained why he loves watching WVU quarterback Garrett Greene during his weekly press conference on Monday.

“Greene’s one of my favorite kids to watch play. Now I don’t know if I’m going to really like watching him on Saturday night, but he’s a competitor and he makes plays,” said Kliemnan.

“He makes plays with his arm. He makes plays with his legs. Not afraid to run inside. He’ll cut back. He’s not going to run out of bounds or slide very often.”

Even though West Virginia and Kansas State avoided each other on the schedule in 2023, Klieman did experience facing Greene in 2022, a season he eventually emerged after taking over for JT Daniels.

In the 2022 matchup – a 48-31 win for Kansas State, Greene completed 15-of-27 passes for 204 passing yards and three touchdowns. He would add another score and more 40 yards on the ground. But unfortunately for the Mountaineers, Greene also threw two costly interceptions and ย West Virginia lost at home. The loss dropped WVU below bowl eligibility and clinched a losing season.
