The #2 West Virginia Mountaineers (14-1) take on the Baylor Bears (11-4) Tuesday night in Morgantown.

Baylor leads the series 8-4, and won the last meeting in Waco last year, 71-62.  West Virginia has won the last 3 of the 4 games, including beating the Bears right after taking the #1 ranking last season.

Baylor was in the top 25 early in the season, but after going 0-4 against ranked opponents, they are now on the outside looking in.

Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew is in his 15^th year in Waco, and has a 290-83 record, 108-128 in the Big XII.

Probable Starters:

Senior guard Manu Lecomte (5’11” 175-lbs) facilitates the offense for the bears, and leads the team in scoring (16.8) and three-point percentage (42.2%).

Senior Forward Jo Lual-Acuil Jr (7’0” 225-lbs) is close to averaging a double-double.  Leading the team in rebounds, with 9.8 per game and blocks (2.0).  He is second on the team in scoring (16.1).

Senior Forward Nuni Omot (6’9” 205-lbs) can finish around the rim and has a good mid-range jumper, hitting 51% from the field.  He can be dangerous from behind the arc, shooting 39.6% from three.  Averages 10.4 points per game.

Junior guard King McClure (6’3” 215-lbs) averages 10.3 points per game.  Strong physical guard that can drive the line and can hit from the outside.

Freshman forwards Tristan Clark (6’9” 240-lbs) second in the team in rebounds (5.5) and averages 8.1 points per game.  Uses his strength to finish around the rim, leading the team in field goal percentage (62.1%).

Coming off the bench:

Senior forward Terry Maston (6’8” 225-lbs) will be the first to come into the game.  Averages 10.4 points per game and 7 rebounds.

Freshman Forward Mark Vital (6’5” 230-lbs) 7.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

Junior guard Jake Lindsey (6’5” 200-lbs) leads the team in assists (3.4).  5.5 points per game.

Freshman guard Tyson Jolly (6’4” 190-lbs) 1.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

Baylor is still one of the most physical teams in the country, and tough defensively.  They are going to play man-to-man, and may switch to a 2-3 zone to force the Mountaineers to hit shots from the outside, then crashing the boards.

They have had some issues finding consistency on the offensive end of the floor, but can get hot from behind the arc, which can open the lane for their big men. If they can get hot, this game will be close, and they will have a chance late in the game.

The Bears still have great Senior leadership in Lecomte and Lual-Acuil, who that have won big games in their time at Baylor.

West Virginia is coming off a big win Saturday night against #7 Oklahoma, and have another top 10 match-up this Saturday in Lubbock.  Could this be a trap game?

Freshman forward Teddy Allen has been averaging 19.0 points in the first 3 games of conference play, giving head coach Bob Huggins that offensive spark off the bench.

Sophomore Forward Sagaba Konate is close to averaging a double-double since the start of Big XII play with 12.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.  He has added a mid-range jumper to his game, that’s opened the lane up for his teammates, and has been finishing around the rim.

Allen and Sags are tough match-ups for Baylor.  With Sags ability to hit the jumper, and Teddy has been a match-up nightmare for everybody.

Senior guards Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles Jr have been leading the Mountaineers, and keeping the team focused throughout the season.  This duo will keep the team on track and find a way to win this game.

West Virginia has the 26^th scoring offense (84.5) and the best defense in the country.  Baylor doesn’t have the talent or depth to keep up with the Mountaineers.  It will be close, and West Virginia will have to play a full 40 minutes, but I don’t expect it to be close at the end of the game.
