Neal Brown, Players Credit Crowd for Assisting WVU in Bowl Win
Charlotte, N.C. – The coaches and players held up the trophy, but WVU head coach Neal Brown made sure to also credit the fans for his team’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl win.
The crowd disparity, which was evident all week in Charlotte, became really apparent once the game got underway. While there’s no way to know exactly how much of the 42,925 announced crowd at Bank of America Stadium were members of Mountaineer Nation, it’s a safe assumption to say most of the fans in attendance were wearing blue and gold.

Brown was not the only one to point out the crowd impact either. Garrett Greene summed up the overwhelming support from WVU fans perfectly. “Not too many teams can have a home game on the road,” said West Virginia’s quarterback about what it means to him to see so many fans made the trip.

The sentiment was even shared by the opposing head coach. North Carolina’s Mack Brown complimented the crowd and said he thought the West Virginia fans there were great.
