A source confirmed with WV Sports Now that West Virginia has made contact with Pitt transfer John Hugley. Hugley entered the transfer portal on Tuesday.

Joe Tipton of On3 was the first to report on Thursday. Tipton’s source told him that Hugley has heard from Arizona State, Arkansas, Butler, Cincinnati, Dayton, Duquesne, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, LSU, Loyola Marymount, Maryland, Miami (FL), Michigan, Nebraska, Oakland, Ohio, Oregon, Rutgers, UCF, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Xavier.

Hugley (6-foot-9, 240 pounds) spent three seasons at Pitt, breaking out during his sophomore campaign. In the 2021-22 season, Hugley averaged 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds in 32 games for the Panthers. Hugley shot 47 percent from the field.

The Cleveland, Ohio native looked to help take Pitt back to the NCAA Tournament this year but dealt with an injury at the beginning of the season and eventually was ruled out for the year by January after an attempt to return to the floor. Hugley appeared in just eight games his junior year.
