Previewing the 2025 WVU Basketball Team: Brenen Lorient, Key Spark Plug
Senior forward Brenen Lorient is one of two players to follow head coach Ross Hodge to Morgantown from North Texas, bringing versatility to WVU Basketball.
The 6-foot-nine forward was a spark plug off the bench, earning the AAC Sixth Man of the Year Award while being named first team all-conference.
Lorient averaged 11.7 points per game, and his 421 total points were the second most among backup players in the nation. He added 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
The Ocala, Fla. native blends right in with Hodge’s defensive mindset, as he averaged 1.1 blocks per game.
This will only be Lorient’s second season with Hodge, as he played his first two seasons with FAU, helping the Owls to a Final Four appearance in the 2022-23 season.
Lorient thrives when he’s attacking the rim and is comfortable putting the ball on the ground to drive. When he gets an open lane, he often makes the most of it with an explosive dunk.

Even as a powerful finisher, Lorient can also convert at the rim with nice touch on layups, making him a dangerous scorer in the front court.

While an aggressive defender and capable shot-blocker, Lorient is smart on defense. He averaged 2.1 fouls per game last season with 24.7 minutes played per game.
Lorient’s time with Hodge makes him a familiar player. As he gears up for his final season of college basketball, Hodge says Lorient has a very high ceiling as a player.
“We are thrilled to have Brenen Lorient at West Virginia University,” Hodge said in a release on April 14. “Brenen has won at every level of basketball and brings with him Final Four experience. He has improved every year and has an incredibly high basketball ceiling.”
