As first reported by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, West Virginia and UMass have agreed to a multi-year series starting in the 2023-24 basketball season.

The first game will take place in Springfield, Mass. at the MassMutual Center with the return game coming to Morgantown in 2024-25.

    • 2024-25: Morgantown, W.Va.

WVU’s Bob Huggins and UMass’ Frank Martin are obviously very good friends. Martin assisted under Huggins at Cincinnati and Kansas State. Martin took the Kansas State head coaching job after Huggins departed to West Virginia. From there, Martin went on to coach the Wildcats for five seasons before coaching at South Carolina for 10. The 56-year-old coached South Carolina to the final four in 2017.

Martin was hired by UMass over the offseason and is preparing for his first season.

West Virginia and UMass have played 41 games. The Mountaineers lead the all-time series 28-13.
