WVU Football Recruiting
Report: WVU Football Out of Running for Star WPIAL Prospect Matt Sieg
Ending his perpetual flirtation with West Virginia, Matt Sieg appears to have narrowed down his list of schools ahead of the December National Signing Day.
According to a 247 Sports report, Sieg will make his final choice public on Dec. 3. If this report is accurate, Sieg is now deciding between staying true to Penn State, staying local at Pitt, Notre Dame, following James Franklin to Virginia Tech or Indiana.
WV Sports Now has reached out to Sieg for confirmation and if he still plans to make his scheduled trip to Morgantown.ย He was scheduled to take an official visit to WVU this coming weekend for the Mountaineers’ season finale against Texas Tech.

A day after announcing his recruitment was back open due to Penn State firing Franklin, Siegย revealed he was re-offered by WVU.
โThankful to have been re-offered by West Virginia,โ posted Sieg on Monday. Sieg was initially offered by Neal Brownโs WVU staff and made a visit to Morgantown before eventually committing to Franklin and Penn State in November of 2024.
The four-star safety prospect from Fort Cherry High School in the Pittsburgh Area told Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.com that he was re-opening his recruitment after learning the news about Franklinโs firing. He then wrote his own post to social media later.
โI love Penn State and am still open to being a Lion,โ said Sieg, โbut with the uncertainty of the current situation, my family and I are trying to make sure we make the best decision for the future. Please respect our decision.โ
โAt this time, I am still committed to current staff at Penn State,โ he told Fawcett. โHowever, due to the recent changes and uncertainty, I have decided to re-open my recruitment.โ
Sieg has broken multiple WPIAL records, with the most recent one being for career total yardage. That was a recent Friday night. The next day, Penn State suffered a stunning loss at the hands of Northwestern, and the day after that, Franklin was fired.
Sieg is the No. 2 player in Pennsylvania per 247Sports, along with the No. 9 safety in the country from his class and the No. 79 overall player. Despite playing quarterback, heโs projected to be a safety at the next level.
WVUโs involvement seemed to signal an opportunity for Sieg to play offense as well. Sieg did talk about his desire to play offense with WVSN at the beginning of his recruitment.
Sieg also has offers from schools such as Alabama, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Pitt, Rutgers, Stanford, Syracuse, Temple, USC, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.
