Report: WVU’s Game at Baylor on Thursday is in Jeopardy

Matt Norlander of CBS Sports is reporting that West Virginia’s basketball game at Baylor scheduled for Thursday is in jeopardy of being postponed or canceled.
Breaking: West Virginia at Baylor, which scheduled for Thursday, is highly likely to be postponed (or maybe canceled) sources told CBS Sports. This is not due to any positive COVID tests within either program. An announcement from the league will be coming this afternoon. (1/2)

Thursday’s game is a game that was rescheduled from earlier this season that was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols within the Baylor program. In a follow-up tweet, Norlander explains that the game may be canceled or postponed as part of an effort from Big 12 athletic directors to tweak the remainder of the regular season schedule prior to the start of the conference tournament.
Big 12 ADs meeting this AM to discuss how to best tweak remainder of Big 12 the schedule to meet conflicting interests. A lot of makeup games and not many days left. But there’s health concerns about having too many games feeding right into the Big 12 conference tourney. (2/2)

If Thursday’s game is played, it will be WVU’s third consecutive away game in the state of Texas. The Mountaineers have been in Texas since last weekend, playing Texas on Saturday and TCU tonight. Playing Thursday would also mean that WVU would have played four games in eight days, including a game against Kansas State scheduled for this Saturday.
Like many teams, WVU still has a few postponed games from earlier in the seasons still outstanding. The Big 12 intentionally left a week prior to the start of the tournament free for teams to make up games, however, there are many games that would need to made up in that time. Along with the game at Baylor, WVU still has home games against Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma State to make up.
The Big 12 conference tournament is scheduled to start on March 10 and run through March 13.
