Teays Valley Christian graduate David Jones will be transferring to Memphis to play his final two years of college basketball, according to Jon Rothstein. Jones played this past season at St. John’s.

Jones (6-foot-6) has had a chaotic collegiate career playing at DePaul, St. John’s and now Memphis. Over the last two seasons, Jones has become a big name in the Big East. Jones averaged 13.2 points and 6.8 rebounds for the Red Storm, shooting 39 percent from the field. Former St. John’s head coach Mike Anderson was let go in March, prompting the university to hire Rick Pitino back to a power conference. Jones entered the transfer portal on April 4 leaving SJU after one year.

During his recruitment, Jones had high interest from Arkansas, Kentucky, Memphis, UConn and Xavier. The Dominican Republic native took visits to Memphis and Xavier before choosing to play for Penny Hardaway. Jones will have the opportunity to be an all-league player in a new-look American Athletic Conference.

Jones joins former WVU guard Josiah Davis as TVCS graduates that have found new homes this portal season. Davis transferred to Tennessee Tech after a year at West Virginia. Davis still has three years of eligibility remaining.
