Twitter Reaction: Mountaineer Nation Fed Up with State of Program

Published

on

As to be expected, Mountaineer Nation reaction didn’t react very too kind to West Virginia’s 48-31 loss to Kansas State. The loss eliminated WVU from the possibility of playing in a bowl game and it also happened in the midst of the news that cornerback Charles Woods decided to leave the program.

I agree with everything said, but on the other hand I think he needs one more year. The programs been through a lot, with COVID, NiL, transfer portal. West Virginia is always gonna have it rough until they figure it all out. So I say keep Neal Brown…he’s a good recruiter, a good fit, and he does what’s right for the team. He gave up play calling for the first time. And no one ever talks about this is Harrell’s first yr. Only if Wvu has a proven, knockout hire, they can get. Bring back Neal Brown another yr. Get a different secondary coach though, bc they have lost to many transfers in the dbs.

Asti, give us a break, your tweet does not belong here. You’ve been a relentless cheerleader for Brown, going so far as to even basing your reporting on why WVU fans are wrong about Brown instead about critically analyzing him, which as a sports journalist is your job. You literally have zero credibility anymore…

Rewind back to Bobby Bowden. Exact same situation except Coach Bowden had some great players passed to him like Jim Braxton possibly the greatest all around player ever a WVU. Where did Coach Bowden end up doing? Hope we don’t make the same mistake 47 years later.

Keep NB one season to ensure some stability to program. Fire the DC and OL coach. Uncovered receivers and 2 all-american offensive linemen yet struggle to find a runner that can turn the corner. Need more aggressive approach to play calling and kick/punt returning game. Too many fair catches. Reevaluate play-calling, game-planning. Lot to fix but firing NB means 3-4 years of rebuilding. No doubt NB needs help because he’s been too loyal to his assistants. Way beyond time to cut ties with friends.

I literally said he was on the hot seat before the season and literally wrote a something has to give piece after Kansas game. I have asked him tougher questions than most. What you are saying is not true in any way and completely made up.

I think the possible solution to WVU’S dilemma is not as difficult as it might sound for a one year reprieve and allowing Neal Brown to coach the 2023 football season he should be willing to give up or forfeit one year of the 2 year extension the Shayn Lyons gave back in 2021. This way he has an opportunity to prove he has the ability to coach a division one program and WVU keeps their current recruiting class for 2023. If at the end of the 2023 season WVU fairs not better than an 8 an 4 or 9 an 3 WVU can begin their search for a new coach and save about $8 million dollars. The real problem was the athletic direct and the president of the university they both agreed to hire Brown and the undeserving contract extension. It’s not often I find a head coach with character and compassion for his players, that my friends is worth a one year extension.

Why would Brown agree to give up years in a contract that someone offered him. That’s dumb business. It’s the same reason why he shouldn’t ever resign because then he loses the buyout money. Your suggestion is nice, but you can’t go into offering someone a contract thinking you are going to ask them to scrap it a year or so later. Brown isn’t dumb. You are asking him to stay on for one year just to keep recruit with the full intention of barring some wild win season you are going to then pull the plug on him and owe him less. No way would he, or any coach, want to do that.

Asti, we need to know some things, as fellow fans, and you can ask the questions

-What if any relations had Lyons and Brown before the first interview? Was Shane old golfing buddies w/Mr Brown? Met through TexTech? Did anyone in the Brown Fam save Lyons life during a medical emergency? anything? something? or a capital NO??

-Exactly when did the Bowtie find out about Brown’s extensions? Before? After? During? What was his reaction? Thoughts or remarks about it?

-Exactly when did the Bowtie (all the above, only re: Lyons extension)

-Exactly when did BOG know about both? Thoughts? reactions? any public comments made by any BOG members? Any displeasure expressed in public setting? Or any exuberance?

-What’s the deal with him being hired back at Bama within a few hours of being fired? That just seems odd to me???? I mean I can’t, off top of my head, even recall the hiring of a guy that was fired from another company for the same/similar position that quick, in any profession?

Something just seems off about this whole thing? All the way back to the Holy War tween Vic and KMart? And how uncomfortable our young lion of a coach who called this place his home repeatedly while here was made by what happened? I can assure you it wasn’t because of Coach Vic’s verbal displeasure with lack of border enforcement. He was upset for being asked to go along…
If there’s anything out there then it’s our duty to help find it. I mean I’m sure there’s a booster who’s going to make it happen……but that 19-20mil would do us a LOT MORE GOOD earmarked for press box exp, led lighting, something, anything

Follow the trail on this…. which way is going? The only group benefiting from this is that group that’s laughing hysterically while the top NON BREAKAWAY school with the largest budget, biggest fan base, best facilities, most wins, best traditions, most vocal(electronic and auditory)fans; the most well known school with the most likely chance of making a case to stop the split of D1 ball is being financially bled irrelevant…slow enough to not cause attn, and fast enough to be too late by time most realize it…
Not necess a 1000 cuts, but a few hundo, and a well thought handful of them strategically placed and a little deeper than the others
