CINCINNATI — Cincinnati HC Wes Miller was asked about former WVU and UC HC Bob Huggins being in attendance on Saturday. Huggins was sitting in a club box, decked out in Bearcat red, watching Cincinnati defeated West Virginia 92-56.

“I did not know he wore red, I love to hear that. To have him back in the building, that’s special for us,” Miller said. “Bob Huggins is a Hall of Famer that coached here. I hope we honored him the right way.”

Huggins was shown on the video board while UC played “Take Me Home, Country Roads” during the second half. Cincinnati ended up rickrolling off of the John Denver classic, but the University did show Huggins on the board, to which he got a standing ovation.

“I wanted to coach at Cincinnati because Bob Huggins and Mick Cronin coached here,” Miller said. “It made me want to coach here. I look up to those guys.”

Huggins has been a consistent attendee for West Virginia Basketball games this season since he resigned as WVU’s head coach back in June.

WVU assistant DerMarr Johnson is another Bearcat connection that the two schools share. Johnson was listed as an assistant during the pregame introductions but did not receive recognition like Huggins or Kenyon Martin did on Saturday.

“I was upset we didn’t recognize him. I thought we should’ve recognized him when they called out the assistants from the other team. They called his name out but we should’ve recognized that we had a former Bearcat back,” Miller said. “That pissed me off a little bit, if you want to be frank. And I thought we were going to so I’ll deal with that.”

West Virginia and Cincinnati will face each other again on Tuesday in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament.
