Morgantown, WV – Today the Mountaineers returned to Mon. Co. Ballpark to take on the struggling Youngstown State Penguins.

The 2nd inning was an offensive explosion for the Mountaineers as freshman shortstop Tevin Tucker doubles down the left field line scoring two runs. Tucker then stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Kevin Brophy followed that up with a two run single to left scoring Darius Hill and Ivan Gonzalez.

West Virginia put up six runs in the 2nd inning to hop out to a 7-0 lead.

The scoring continued in the 3rd inning with a RBI single up the middle from Tyler Doanes scoring Tevin Tucker. Outfielder Darius Hill sent a shot to left center resulting in an RBI double.

Tyler Doanes continued his good day at the dish with a triple to right field that plated speedy center fielder Brandon White.

In the 6th inning, true freshman Tevin Tucker belted his first career home run over the left field wall extending the Mountaineers lead to 14-0.

Nick Snyder tossed a good game on the mound for West Virginia giving up no runs, four hits and striking out four in 4 innings of work. He would go on to be the winning pitcher moving his record to 3-1 on the season.

The Mountaineers would go onto win 14-1 and dropping Youngstown State to a 1-18 record.

“This might be one of those games that was kind of boring for the players and the fans to sit through, but man I had the time of my life. We pitched well, hit well and played pretty good defense.” Head coach Randy Mazey said.

West Virginia has now won six of their last eight games moving to 13-7 on the season and 6-0 at home. Big 12 play begins this weekend as the team travels to Waco to take on the Baylor Bears for a three game set.
