What’s More Likely?: WVU Football Beats Penn State or Wins Big 12?

It’s the season of college football hypotheticals with the summer ahead and fall camp still months away. Keeping that in mind, here’s an interesting one for WVU football in 2024.

Which of these scenarios is more likely to happen – West Virginia achieves a rare big win for the program and kicks off the season with a victory over Penn State OR the Mountaineers take advantage of the new-look Big 12 and win the conference?

While it’s possible both of these things could occur, this hypothetical is asking which one you believe is more likely to happen.

To fully put this question in its proper perspective, Penn State opened up as a 12.5-point favorite despite being on the road. The Nittany Lions also won the 2023 edition 38-15. WVU’s last win over Penn State came in 1988. Penn State has a commanding lead in the all-time series at 49-9-2.

As far as the Big 12, the 2024 season marks the dawning of a new era as the conference will have 16 teams for the first time in its history. A conference title would be the West Virginia’s 16th in program history and first since joining the Big 12.
