After what was arguably the best season in program history in 2016, the WVU Womens Soccer Team returned back to Dreamswork Field today to get underway with preseason camp.

The 2016 season was a historic year for the Mountaineers as they reached College Cup final for the first time ever, as well as sweeping the conference in Big 12 play. This year, the Mountaineers have the same goal in mind as the excitement about the soccer program is at an all-time high amongst fans.

Top returners for the team include Senior forward Michaela Abam & Senior midfielder Carla Portillo. Abam ranked 1st in the Big 12 in goals scored last season and was statistically second best scorer on the team while Portillo ranked 3rd on the team in 2016 with 5 goals & 7 assists.

The 2016 season was truly one to remember:

  • 2016 All-Americans: Three (Michaela Abam, Kadeisha Buchanan, Ashley Lawrence)
  • 2016 Record: 23-2-2, 8-0 Big 12 Conference

The Lady Mountaineers start the season on August 7th with a exhibition match at Michigan, while their first home match is set for August 24th versus Virginia.
