WVU Baseball Adds All-Conference Closer Trey Braithwaite from Navy
Randy Mazey will have a new weapon to use in the back of their bullpen next season as right-handed reliever Trey Braithwaite has announced he will transfer from Navy to WVU.

Braithwaite will join WVU as a fifth-year senior following a successful four-year career with the Midshipmen. In 2021, Braithwaite had a 4.44 ERA in 24 1/3 innings across 14 appearances. He struck out 38 batters and went 4-2 with three saves. He received All-Patriot League Second Team honors following the season. Braithwaite has a career 3.07 ERA in 67 1/3 innings and leaves Navy tied for the all-time program record with 17 saves in his career.
Navy finished 17-15 (11-12 Patriot League) this season, losing a three-game series to Lehigh in the Patriot League Tournament Semifinals.

Braithewaite will join a WVU bullpen that had an up and down 2021. Jacob Watters emerged as WVU’s closer during the season, earning four saves with a 3.33 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 27 innings. Sophomore Noah Short broke out as a dependable relief option, posting a 2.51 ERA in a team-high 25 appearances. Skylar Gonzales (4.56 ERA) and Madison Jeffrey (6.75) worked at least 20 innings each out of the bullpen this season. Zach Ottinger (8.66 ERA), Daniel Ouderkirk (7.94) and Beau Lowery (4.61) each made at least 14 appearances as well.
