WVU Baseball Finishes Firmly Inside Multiple Final Top 25 Polls

There’s no denying the 2025 WVU baseball season has a case as the greatest in program history. In his debut season as head coach, Steve Sabins led the Mountaineers to a record win total, the first-ever outright regular season conference title and another appearance in the NCAA Super Regional stage.
And now that the College World Series crown has been awarded, ironically to the team that eliminated WVU, West Virginia is receiving some recognition for their season in the form of placement on the national rankings.
WVU cracked the top 15 for both Baseball America and D1Baseball at No. 13 and 14, respectively. They also landed in the top 15 at No. 14 via Perfect Game. In contrast, the Mountaineers were placed at 17 in the final top 25 on the USA Today Coaches Poll.
The pressure is now on Sabins to maintain the national contender status into next season and beyond. To his credit, WVU has enjoyed great success in recruiting throughout the offseason so far.
For a related story, Steve Sabins put the season in perspective and also detailed his “tough love” approach to coaching.
