WVU Baseball Pitcher Named to Freshman All-America Team

One reason the future should be bright for WVU baseball is pitcher David Hagaman. The red-shirt freshman was named to the Freshman All-America team for his individual success during the 2023 season.
Hagaman, a New Jersey native, made the second team as voted on by members of the National College Baseball Writers Association. He appeared in 22 games for West Virginia, mostly in relief and making one start.

Hagaman emerged as a reliable bullpen arm, finishing the year with a 3.52 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 38.1 innings pitched. He also held batters to a .174 batting average.
Hagaman becomes the 10th Mountaineer to ever be named a freshman All-American and just the fourth to be awarded the honor by the NCBWA, joining Jedd Gyorko (2008), Kyle Davis (2015), and Darius Hill (2016).
Randy Mazey should now be able to keep counting on Hagaman for years to come.
