While the country was mostly glued to election results late Tuesday, college basketball fans got a gift in the form of the first batch of KenPom.com team ratings.

Those ratings, while not official in any capacity but often a good barometer for a team’s true standing, were kind to West Virginia and the Big 12.

WVU checks in at No. 8 in the initial KenPom.com ratings — one of five teams from the Big 12 in the top 10. Baylor is No. 1, followed by Kansas at No. 5, Texas Tech at No. 6, West Virginia at No. 8 and Texas at No. 9.

The Mountaineers finished at No. 10 in last season’s KenPom.com ratings prior to the season being cancelled.
