WVU Coach Leaves Social Media Following Poor Performance Against Pitt

PITTSBURGH – It’s possible to read too much into social media, but a coach deleting his account after a game is rarely a good sign. And to add some drama to the aftermath of WVU losing to Pitt, a prominent West Virginia coach deleted his X (formerly Twitter) account.

WVU defensive coordinator Jordan Lesley’s X account has been removed as of early Sunday morning.

It’s safe to assume Lesley didn’t want to hear from WVU fans after his defense allowed 379 yards of total offense to Pitt, including 301 from quarterback Eli Holstein through the air. Holstein also added 50 yards on the ground to account for most of the Panthers’ production himself.

The West Virginia defense also blew a 10-point lead in the final minutes of the game as Holstein carved up the Mountaineer secondary. This comes a week after WVU allowed an FCS quarterback to find success passing as well.

By throwing for 306 yards, Albany quarterback Myles Burkett accumulated the most passing yards ever produced by any FCS opponent against a WVU team. In fact, Albany became the first FCS program to ever reach and surpass 300 yards through the air against the Mountaineers.

WVU Secondary Exposed Further By FCS School

The previous high was 280 yards from Liberty in 2015 right before they moved up to the FBS level.

When asked for a comment about the secondary having another rough game last week, WVU head coach Neal Brown said they didn’t play fast enough. He also added that stats don’t lie about allowing 300 yards passing.

Lesley downplayed WVU’s defensive issues during his weekly press conference leading up to the Pitt game. He even said there was a “simple fix” to the problems with the secondary.

If something doesn’t improve fast, West Virginia could be in for a very long season. Next up for the Mountaineers is a return home to open Big 12 play against Kansas.

For a related story, WVU head coach Neal Brown didn’t hold back when responding to what Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi said after the game.
