WVU Football Endures DL in Portal; Depth Kicker Will Also Transfer
After mostly just losing players who had already been off the team or were looking for more playing time elsewhere, the WVU football program endures its first big hit on Friday afternoon.
West Virginia defensive lineman Mike Lockhart is entering the Transfer Portal. This was first reported by Keenan Cummings of Rivals’ WVSports.com and has since been confined.
West Virginia DL Mike Lockhart, who transferred in from Georgia Tech, re-entered the transfer portal; in two seasons with the Mountaineers he totaled 34 tackles, 10 TFL and 2.5 sacks @the205mike pic.twitter.com/wme78axrQe

Lockhart doubled his production in 2023 from 2022, totaling 21 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks.
Before arriving in Morgantown, Lockhart spent three years at Georgia Tech. He’s going to have instant eligibility as a grad transfer at his next school.
It was widely expected that West Virginia was planning to rely on Lockhart even more in 2024, but those plans will now obviously have to change.
In addition to Lockhart, kicker Danny King also decided to enter the portal. King was a redshirt place kicker for WVU in 2023, added for depth.
