With his eyes set on the NFL, Marques Watson-Trent decided to enter the transfer portal and test his game at a higher level of college football. It now appears the WVU football program may provide him with an opportunity to play in a Power Four conference.

West Virginia extended an official offer to the Georgia Southern transfer linebacker on Friday. The Mountaineers are the first school he’s posted about on social media since announcing his plans on Dec. 22.

Watson-Trent posted a picture of Anthony Wilson, who transferred from Georgia Southern to WVU two years ago, on X (formerly Twitter) to reveal the news. Wilson then showed his support by responding to the post.

Watson-Trent’s WVU offer would also allow him to play close to home. The 5-foot-11, 225-pound linebacker is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa. and played at Blackhawk High School within the prestigious WPIAL.

He recorded a 120 total tackles in 2024 with 7.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. Overall in five years at Georgia Southern, Watson-Trent registered 365 tackles, including surpassing 100 in each of the past three seasons. He also accomplished 26 tackles for a loss and six sacks.

Watson-Trent has only one year left of eligibility as a grad transfer.
