WVU Football Shows Early Love to Highly Coveted 2028 IMG Academy DB

Showing their belief in the player, the WVU football staff sent an offer to a top 2028 recruit on Tuesday.

To get in early and start building a relationship a year in advance, West Virginia offered Phoenix Evans, a highly coveted defensive back out of IMG Academy in Florida.

Evans posted about his WVU offer on social media, adding it to his list that already includes the likes of Auburn, Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland,  Miami (FL), Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Rutgers, SMU, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Washington, Wisconsin and several Group of 5 schools.

Evans, who was initially offered by Neal Brown’s staff in 2024, is ranked as a consensus top 20 Florida prospect in his class and also among the top 15 at his position in the country. He transferred to IMG Academy in January after previously playing for Don Bosco.

Evans will participate in the 2027 Navy All-American Bowl, annual event/game for the top 100 high school players in the nation.
