West Virginia guard Erik Stevenson was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week highlighted by his 31-point performance against Auburn on Saturday. Stevenson helped the Mountaineers go 2-0 last week.

Stevenson averaged 23.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists last week. The Washington native shot 45 percent from the field and 47 percent from three.

Stevenson has felt like he’s breaking out of his slump from the previous few weeks.

“I’ve had a feel all year, I’ve just been in a Stevie slump,” Stevenson said after the win on Saturday. “I always get one of those every year it seems. I got to credit my teammates, they helped me through it. They’re telling me to shoot the ball.”

Stevenson was recognized with Baylor’s LJ Cryer, who was named the conference’s player of the week.
