Despite suffering a heartbreaking, last-second loss to No. 4 Texas over the weekend, the West Virginia men’s basketball team move up one spot to No. 13 in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll.

The Mountaineers (9-4, 2-3 Big 12) dropped five spots in last week’s poll following a loss at Oklahoma, but voters did not penalize WVU this week after leading the Longhorns for much of Saturday’s game. WVU jumped No. 14 Illinois, who lost to an unranked Maryland team on Sunday.

WVU was scheduled to have had another crack at a top-five team on Tuesday, but it was announced Monday morning that the Mountaineers’ game against No. 2 Baylor was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols. WVU’s next scheduled game is Jan. 16 at home against TCU.

Other Big 12 teams in the AP Poll include No. 2 Baylor, No. 4 Texas, No. 6 Kansas and No. 15 Texas Tech. Oklahoma State also received 28 votes.
