WVU Paired with 2024 Cinderella Story in Latest Bowl Projections
After another week of games, Brett McMurphy of the Action Network has WVU facing an opponent that was responsible for one of the biggest moments of the season so far.
According to McMurphy’s current bowl game projections, West Virginia would play Vanderbilt in the Liberty Bowl. The Mountaineers have been placed in the Liberty Bowl several times this season, but the matchup with Vanderbilt is a new projection.

While WVU is coming off a 28-16 loss to Iowa State in their Coal Rush game, Vanderbilt beat Kentucky for their second conference win. West Virginia is now 3-3 (2-1, Big 12) while Vanderbilt is 4-2 (2-1, SEC).
Vanderbilt earned a staple win earlier this season, beating Alabama 40-35 on Oct. 5.
To no surprise, major oddsmakers and sportsbooks are expecting WVU to lose to their second straight ranked opponent in Week 8.
On Sunday, both DraftKings and FanDuel released their odds for the next slate of college football games and have the Mountaineers as a 2.5-point underdog at home to Kansas State.
One of Neal Brown’s two bowl wins at WVU came in the Liberty Bowl in 2020.
