WVU Releases Football 2019 Preseason Depth Chart

The West Virginia Football program released their media guide during Big 12 Media Days and inside, is the preseason depth chart. Of course, a lot of it is subject to change during fall practice and there have been some departures since the annual Gold and Blue spring game.

Three safeties left since the final scrimmage. Most notably was all conference free safety Kenny Robinson along with Derrek Pitts and EJ Brown.

“Didn’t necessarily come as a surprise, so we’ve been planning.” Said West Virginia head coach Neal Brown. “I do feel good about how our guys have worked and how they’ve really prepared. I think we’ve got some depth and we got some young guys ready to step up and play.”

After the exodus, Josh Norwood moved from corner, started working with the safeties during summer workouts and is now in competition to start at cat safety.

There was no front-runner for starting quarterback during the spring, but Brown believes they’ll separate themselves.

“I think when we know, we’re going to know.” Stated Brown. “It’s going to be clear. I think that’s the way it works during these quarterback competitions, is you go through – and really, it’s not necessarily the coach choosing, it’s really one quarterback separating himself from the others.”

Most of the talent lies within the running back group. There hasn’t been a starter announced, but Brown has stated that he will get creative to get more than one on the field at the same time and get them the ball.

There’s going to be movement through fall camp and with incoming freshmen and transfers, there will be a healthy competition throughout the roster until opening weekend.
