WVU Basketball Ranked Among Top 50 in Preseason KenPom Rankings
WVU basketball reached a new hight in the preseason KenPom rankings, beating its season-best from last year.
WVU is ranked No. 41 in the preseason rankings, which is higher than WVU made it an any point last season. The Mountaineers are ninth in the Big 12, behind Houston at No. 3, Arizona at No. 5, Iowa State at No. 6, Kansas at No. 8, Texas Tech at No. 12, Cincinnati at No. 31, BYU at No. 33 and Baylor at No. 35.
Last season, West Virginia had a resume of a 70-54 win over Mount Saint Maryโs, a 73-65 win over Campbell,ย a 69-47 victory over Lehigh, a 71-49 domination of Pitt in the Backyard Brawl, aย 81-59 blowout win over Lafayette,ย a 70-38 ย routing of Mercyhurst,ย a 91-49 blowout win over Coppin State,ย a 90-58 win over Little Rock,ย an 86-51 win over MVSU, ย two winsย over Cincinnati, aย 86-75 upset over Kansas, a convincing 72-61 win over Colorado,ย 75-63 road win at Arizona State,ย aย gritty 59-54 win over Kansas State,ย a 74-63 comeback win over UCF, a 79-71 victory over No. 19 BYU and a 77-62 win over UCF to close out the season.
In head coach Ross Hodgeโs first year, West Virginia finished the season at 18-14 with a 9-10 Big 12 record, including 0-1 in the conference tournament. The Mountaineers finished with three straight wins, culminating in a College Basketball Crown Championship.
