Akron Transfer DB Darrian Lewis Signs with WVU Football

Akron transfer defensive back Darrian Lewis’ recent visit to Morgantown has now led to his signing with the WVU football program. Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of CBS Sports/247 Sports were first with the news, but Lewis has now confirmed his decision.

A 5-foot-10, 190-pound corner, Lewis played in 12 games and started 11 for the Zips during the 2024 season. Lewis just posted about his trip to Purdue on Tuesday, but will instead join the Mountaineers in the Big 12.

He recorded 74 tackles, three tackles for a loss for six yards, picked off a pass and even had six pass breakups in 2024 after registering 75 total tackles (51 as solo) in nine starts in 2023.

Lewis spent four years at Akron, granted did not appear in a game when he first arrived in 2021.

Since entering the transfer portal late in the spring window on April 22, Lewis has received offers from FAU, Miami (OH), New Mexico, Robert Morris, UTEP, Western Michigan and Western Kentucky.

Nearby FCS schools Duquesne and RMU heavily pursed Lewis in 2020 out of high school before he eventually decided to join Akron instead.
