All But One Sunday HS Football Playoff Game Canceled Due by COVID Map

The list of West Virginia high school football games scheduled for Sunday was originally at 11, but after Saturday’s state department of education COVID metrics map update that number is down to just one.

Class AA No. No. 15 Clay County will take on No. 2 Bluefield in a game that did not appear like it would happen late in the week. That’s it.

Teams in counties deemed orange or red on last week’s map had until today’s update for their county to improve to gold, yellow or green. If it did not, those teams would forfeit.

In Class AAA, Saturday’s map update wiped out No. 16 John Marshall (scheduled to play No. 1 Cabell Midland), No. 15 Ripley (at No. 2 South Charleston), No. 11 Hurricane (at No. 6 Spring Valley), No. 7 Wheeling Park (vs. No. 10 Princeton) and No. 8 Parkersburg (vs. No. 9 Spring Mills).

In Class AA, No. 9 Poca (at No. 8 Robert C. Byrd) is eliminated while Class A No. 1 Tug Valley (vs. No. 16 Tygarts Valley), No. 6 Williamstown (vs. No. 11 Tolsia), No. 12 Buffalo (at No. 5 Midland Trail) and No. 13 Wheeling Central (at No. 4 St. Marys) are also done for the year with their scheduled opponents advancing to next week’s state quarterfinals.
