Since the Cleveland Browns took some country roads to their training camp home in West Virginia again this year, it’s only fitting their players learn the lyrics to the song synonymous with the state.

The Browns posted a video across social media showing players attempting to sing John Denver’s classic “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

The caption of the post on X (formerly Twitter) read, “Only right to ask this question since weโ€™re camping in beautiful West Virginia.”

While most players messed up the lyrics, including one who even seemed confused about which state he was in, some actually did seem to have a little familiarity with the song. Eventually, former Mountaineer Tony Fields II tried to help teach his teammates the song he grew to love in college.

Fields also jumped in as part of similar content from the Browns’ social media team last year around this same time. Apparently, Fields has been trying to get the Browns to play the song he would sing after home wins at WVU at practice.

Fields, who is preparing for his fourth NFL season, recorded 34 total tackles and forced a fumble in 2023. After finishing his college career at West Virginia, which included being selected to an All-Big 12 team, he was drafted by the Cleveland in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Fields’ best NFL season came in 2022 when he made 48 total tackles, picked off a pass and scored a touchdown.

The Browns started holding training camp in West Virginia in 2023 and are back for camp again this summer at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.
