Caden Biser, Special Teams Stalwart | WVU Football All 105
All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2025 WVU Football Roster.
Caden Biser joined the Mountaineers as a preferred walk-on ahead of the 2021 season, going on to earn a full scholarship in 2023 after establishing himself as a consistent contributor able to do the dirty work on special teams.
A graduate of Keyser High School, the six foot tall, 230 pound linebacker is also a legacy Mountaineer. Biser’s father, Sean, played for West Virginia as an interior lineman from 1990 to 1993, going on to coach his sons — Biser’s brother, Jackson, also plays for the Mountaineers — in high school.
When taking defensive snaps, Biser plays mike linebacker, able to call the shots and captain the defense… a leadership role that makes sense given his ‘coach’s son’ status.
36 • Cayden Biser, redshirt senior linebacker
Last year: Biser appeared in 12 games for the Mountaineers in 2024, adding depth at linebacker and serving as a mainstay on special teams.
Stats: 38 total tackles, 17 solo tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks across 36 career games. Biser enjoyed his best statistical season as a redshirt sophomore in 2023.
Camp outlook: Rather than boxing himself into a specific scheme like a 4-3 or 3-3-5, new Mountaineers defensive coordinator Zac Alley says he plans to tailor the way he deploys his players based on how opposing offenses line up. Although Reid Carrico is expected to take up a bigger role at middle linebacker, that versatile strategy could open up snaps for players like Biser down the stretch.
Projected role: Expect Biser to occupy a role similar to previous seasons, both as a backup and special teams stalwart.
Accolades, highlights: Biser won the Chuck Howley Award during his senior year of high school as the top linebacker in the state of West Virginia. He also earned an all-state selection.
