Defensive End Taijh Alston Could Miss First Half of Season

After missing all but two games of the 2019 season with a knee injury, junior defense end Taijh Alston is expected to miss the first half of the 2020 season.

Taijh’s injury was announced in a press release from head coach Neal Brown Sunday. The release stated that Alston will not be ready to go for preseason camp and will likely miss the first half of the season.

Alston was one of WVU’s starting defensive ends at the beginning of the 2019 season. Alston recorded one sack in the team’s opener against James Madison before suffering a season-ending knee injury in week two at Missouri.

This season, Alston was expected to have a large role in the team’s rotation along the defensive line. Without Alston last season, senior Reuben Jones, junior Jeffery Pooler Jr. and sophomore Dante Stills played the vast majority of the team’s defensive end snaps.

Without Alston this season, the team can again turn to Pooler and Still along with Maryland transfer Bryce Brand and redshirt freshman Jalen Thornton.
