Deuce McBride Gives Advice to 4-Star Kelvin Odih on WVU Visit
2025 four-star guard Kelvin Odih visited West Virginia over the weekend and left with some advice from current New York Knicks guard Miles “Deuce” McBride.
It was a big weekend in Morgantown as the stars were out: Pat McAfee, Pat White, Tavon Austin, Big Noon Kickoff, Machine Gun Kelly, etc. McBride, as well as other former Mountaineers, Erik Stevenson and John Flowers were also around, spending time within the facility walls as a new era takes place under Darian DeVries.
Odih met McBride, who gave him some pointers and advice to reach his long-term goals.
“I met an NBA player. He gave me some gems, talked to me, stuff like that. It was crazy,” Odih said to WV Sports Now.
“Deuce was telling me that I should continue to work hard and if I do that, I will get to my end result which is making the NBA,” he added.
McBride also had to pitch West Virginia to the rising high school senior from Connecticut.
“Deuce was telling me about his experience at West Virginia and that if I were to come here, I would meet people who would become life-long friends,” Odih went into further detail. “That people take care of people that come here. It’s a big family state. They all take care of each other.”
For Odih, it seemed like a cool moment to speak to someone who has that experience playing at WVU and reaching the NBA. McBride played two seasons at West Virginia under Bob Huggins and was drafted in the second round of the 2021 NBA draft. McBride is now preparing for his fourth season with the New York Knicks. The former Mountaineer guard saw an increased role appearing in 68 games while averaging 8.3 points in 19.5 minutes per game. In the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Indiana Pacers, McBride started in two games.
McBride also went viral on Friday while appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show” on WVU’s campus. McAfee made a deal with McBride that if he nailed a far shot into a basketball hoop in three attempts, McAfee would pay for a student’s tuition. Well, McBride made the third shot.

Odih, 6-foot-5, narrowed his recruitment down to six schools: Colorado, Creighton, Louisville, Oklahoma State, Rutgers and West Virginia. One of WVU’s new assistants, Tom Ostrom, is leading Odih’s recruitment. Odih has trips to Colorado, Creighton and Rutgers lined up over the next month. The 2025 prospect does not have a timeline yet for finalizing his recruitment.
WVSN will provide updates throughout the rest of Odih’s recruitment.
