Mountaineers in the Pros

Fans, Media, Former Teammates React to Celtics Making Joe Mazzulla Full-Time Head Coach

Once news spread that the improbable story of 34-year-old former Mountaineer Joe Mazzulla becoming the head coach of the historic Boston Celtics has advanced to officially being a full-time position, fans, in particular West Virginia fans, media, old teammates and everyone in the sports community couldn’t hold back their jubilation.

Much of the reaction was also even rooted in a surprise, not about the interim tag being removed in general since he’s led the Celtics to the NBA’s best record at the All-Star break, but that this decision would be made by the franchise before the conclusion of the season or playoffs. Either way, the keys to one of the most coveted basketball coaching jobs in the country are now in the hands of the WVU product.
