Former West Virginia safety Derrek Pitts finds new home

Published

According to a report from Allan Taylor of WVMetroNews and The Dominion Post, former West Virginia safety Derrek Pitts Jr. has officially enrolled at Marshall.

Pitts, has battled through a couple of injuries throughout his career in Morgantown, only appearing in 14 games through two seasons. He will finish his Mountaineer career with 36 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception and one fumble recovery for a touchdown (on blocked field goal vs Iowa State).

The 2019 season appeared to be the year that Pitts would break out for the Mountaineers, but decided to enter the transfer portal shortly after fellow teammate Kenny Robinson entered his name into the portal.

The South Charleston native will have a much clearer path to a starting role with the Thundering Herd, providing he can remain healthy. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
