On Monday night, 2022 4-star center Shawn Phillips de-committed from NC State, opening up his recruitment again. Phillips had West Virginia in his final three schools back in August.

Phillips has decided to de-commit from NC State due to the recent coaching changes within the staff.

“I would first like to say thanks to Coach Keatts and the staff for recruiting me and giving me the opportunity to play at NC State. Thanks also to the fans and everyone who gave endless support throughout this time. But due to recent staff changes, I will be decommitting from NC State and re-opening my recruitment. Time to find a new home,” Phillips said.

Phillips (6-foot-10, 250 pounds) is ranked top-125 in the country for the class of 2022. Phillips visited West Virginia back in June, eventually throwing WVU into his final three schools in August. The Arizona native chose the Wolfpack over West Virginia and Ole Miss in September.

West Virginia has one scholarship remaining for the 2022-23 roster. WVU’s coaching staff so far has picked up South Carolina transfer Erik Stevenson and Iowa’s Joe Toussaint, while also getting JUCO bigs Mohamed Wague and Jimmy Bell Jr.

WV Sports Now will keep up to date with the latest recruiting and transfer portal news during the offseason.
