Gambler’s Corner: Week Seven

If anybody needed a win, it was us. We refuse to let our dismal start in weeks five and six define our college football prowess! Thank you, Georgia and Notre Dame for pulling our overall record to 3-6.

Now, let’s ride this very weak and fragile wave of momentum into week seven.

Last week’s results:

  • Notre Dame (-14) over North Carolina – Win
  • Kentucky (-10) over Missouri – Loss
  • Georgia (-17.5) over Vanderbilt – Win

Hot Takes of Week Seven

Baylor at Oklahoma State (over 68.5 points)

I dislike the Bears on a very personal level for non-football related reasons. So, their 0-5 start to the season please me. But making money at their expense makes me even happier. Baylor is awful and I was tempted to take the Cowboys and their -25.5 point spread until I saw the over. Oklahoma State boasts one of the nation’s top offenses and is primed to pour it on a Bears defense that allows 36 points per game. And even in its losses, Baylor still scores plenty of points. Mason Rudolph and company should have a field day while the Bears score just enough to hit the over.

Virginia (-3.5) at North Carolina

The Wahoos have been a surprisingly good football team while the Tar Heels have yet to win a game against a “Power 5” team. North Carolina has a rather lethargic offense, averaging only 25 points per game and a hapless defense that gives up a whopping 470 yards per game. Virginia’s senior quarterback Kurt Benkert has been stellar for the Cavaliers, throwing for no less than 3 touchdowns per game in winning efforts.

Temple (-9.5) versus Connecticut

I have a habit of taking the Owls when they play at home and I’m not ready to give that addiction up. Temple has had trouble scoring early in the season, but should find pay dirt often against a Huskies team that allows a miserable 575 yards per game with nearly 400 yards of that comes through the air. Luckily, the Owls have relied on their stingy defense in their 3 wins on the season and should stifle a Huskies offense that only scores 26 points per game.
