MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – No matter what happens from this point forward, Garrett Greene knows his career as a Mountaineer is over after WVU’s upcoming Frisco Bowl appearance. And knowing the finality of his journey is coming, Greene opened up about how he wants to be remembered by WVU fans.

Echoing a similar sentiment to what he said after his final home game, Greene just wants to be viewed as a competitor and someone who gave it his all. Greene said he knows he made some great plays and also had some really rough moments, too.

Simply put, Greene wants to be remembered as someone who “played his ass off for his team” above all else. He expanded even further on this hope of his during his postgame press conference following West Virginia’s 31-21 win over UCF in their home finale.

Garrett Greene Reflects on WVU Career: ‘Itโ€™s Been an Honor of a Lifetime’

โ€œItโ€™s been an honor of a lifetime to be able to represent this state, to be able to represent this wonderful university. I wouldnโ€™t want it any other way,โ€ said Greene while reflecting back on his college career after the game.

Greene also admitted that he stayed on the field a bit longer than normal to soak up hearing WVU fans sing โ€œTake Me Home, Country Roadsโ€ after a win at home one last time.

Former WVU head coach Neal Brown, who recruited Greene out of Tallahassee, Fla. in 2020, made his feelings about his quarterback loud and clear at that time.

โ€œReally happy for him that he performed and won in his last game here. I think he deserves that, I hope our fans appreciate him. He hasnโ€™t always played clean football, but heโ€™s laid it on the line for the Mountaineers every time heโ€™s suited up,โ€ offered Brown when asked what Greene means to him.

With one more game left to go, Greene has 5,042 passing yards, a 55.8 completion percentage, 34 touchdowns through the air and 18 interceptions in his WVU career, one that started off as a backup and then transitioned into being the starter for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Greene has 2,041 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns on the ground.
