Geno Smith Cashes in on Another Incentive for Special Season

In addition to accolades and respect, Geno Smith’s season has now also earned him extra money.

Smith triggered another contract incentive on Sunday, awarding the WVU Sports Hall of Famer an additional $250,000 after surpassing 4,000 yards passing on the season. This money is on top of the $750,000 for passing 3,400 and 3,700 yards.

Passing for over 4,000 yards (4,069 to be exact through 16 games)  is not the only way Smith has cashed in on his renaissance season. He will also receive a $500,000 bonus for making the Pro Bowl and thrown for over 20 touchdowns (currently at 29). Another $250,000 happens for each playing time hurdle he’s reached. Smith had a clause that would equal $250,000 if he played in 55%, 65%, 75% and 85% of Seattle’s offensive snaps. With only one game left in the regular season, Smith has played in 100% of the Seahawks snaps on offense so far.

That’s not all either. Smith has plenty to play for personally and for his team in Week 18. If Seattle makes the playoffs, Smith’s incentives would double to $2 million.

Even though they do need some help to get in, the Seahawks can still get in, needing a win against the Rams and a Packers loss. That would clinch the NFC’s final Wild Card spot.
