Georgia DB Puts WVU in Top-3

With only a few weeks remaining before the start of spring camp, West Virginia head coach Neal Brown and his staff have had one eye on winter workouts and the other on recruiting.

Last week, defensive assistant coach Al Pogue unearthed a potential gem in the form of surging 2020 Sandy Creek (GA) defensive back Joey Hunter.

“I was really excited,” Hunter said about his offer from the Mountaineers.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound lock-down corner recently received his first offer from Colorado before adding West Virginia and Maryland to that list. And though his recruitment is just starting to blossom, Hunter didn’t shy away from being interested in a conference with high-powered offenses.

“That’s honestly why the Big 12 is number one on my list right now. I like the fact that they throw it a lot. [West Virginia] is definitely in the top two or three. I’ve always liked West Virginia.”

Given his size and physicality, it’s easy to see why ‘Power 5 schools’ are starting to look Hunter’s way.

“Definitely my man coverage,” Hunter answered when asked about the best part of his game. “I haven’t given up a 100 yards in my career and I’ve been starting since a freshman. I feel like I can guard anyone in the country. I’m also very physical – so I like to make big hits.”

As for now, the Georgia product says he plans on visiting Morgantown during the season but would like visit sooner if possible.

Hunter plans on committing before the start of his senior season, and when it comes time to make that decision, he says that “a school who plays a lot of man and has slots open for him to have the opportunity to play young” will be key factors.
