Grier explains why he skipped bowl game

Yesterday at the first day of the Reese’s Senior Bowl practice in Birmingham, Alabama, former West Virginia quarterback Will Grier met with the media.

The first questions Grier fielded was about his decision to not participate in the Mountaineers’ bowl game vs Syracuse.

“I actually tore my ankle up in the Texas game, we didn’t really put it out to the media. But it was pretty rough the last few games. I went through treatment and was planning on playing for a week. Then, Dana (Holgorsen) and I sat down and thought it would be best to get Jack Allison some reps and to get some younger guys reps in the bowl game. He knew how important it was for me to get healthy and chase my dream.” Grier responded.

Grier took a lot of heat from the fan base for the decision, but at the end of the day, he made a decision for his family and to get healthy.

He will be playing in the Reese’s senior Bowl this Saturday at 2:30 on the NFL Network.
