BREAKING: Safeties coach Matt Caponi off to Iowa State

Early this morning, DubVNation learned that West Virginia safeties coach Matt Caponi had contact with Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell about joining the staff.

Just moments ago, news became official. Caponi has agreed to leave Morgantown and head to Ames where he will join the up and coming Cyclones.

Both Caponi and Campbell made their connection back to their days at the University of Mount Union, a Division III powerhouse.

Campbell commented on the hire saying, “He is a rising star in the profession. I’ve watched him grow as a player and coach, he will be a great asset to our defense.”

With the staff additions of Al Pogue and Jahmile Addae at West Virginia, it only seemed like a matter of time before Caponi would find a new job.

The Mountaineers host Iowa State October 12th at Milan Puskar Stadium.
