The West Virginia Mountaineer Basketball team dropped their third-straight game of the season Wednesday night against No. 20 Iowa State. WVU gave up 29 points on 19 turnovers inside the Hilton Coliseum. Head coach Bob Huggins expressed his frustrations after the game.

“It just not the passer a lot of times. It’s the guy who’s supposed to be the receiver taking short cuts and so consequently, they can stay up the line.” Explained Huggins. “They’re a good team. They’re extremely well coached. I mean, they’re going to do the right things, but I can’t tell somebody in this league that’s not going to do the right thing.”

Iowa State scored with ease throughout the night hitting 66.7% (26-39) on two-point field goals, including a perfect 17-17 from around the rim.

“No knock on them but everybody shoots a high percentage against us. We suck.” Proclaimed Huggs. “They’re good. I admire guys like Weiller-Babb who came in who really wasn’t a polished guard – he is now. He’s made himself a good shooter. They put four guys out there that can bounce it. Straight-line people. They do a great job of spacing. They’re good. Steve does a terrific job.”

Lamont West took a three from the corner in front of the West Virginia bench and West appeared to be knocked to the ground. As played continued, Huggins voiced his displeasure with a foul not being called on the shot. Official Darron George didn’t agree with Huggins and issued a technical foul – it led to a media timeout. Huggins continued going after George from across the floor as WVU assistant coaches was holding Huggins back. George wasn’t having anything to do with it and issued Huggs a second technical and tossed him from the game.

“What was my grievance? I’m trying to say this, so I don’t get in trouble, you know?” Huggs said trying to hold back criticisms of the officials. “I just think things ought to be equitable. I thought our guy got knocked down. Obviously, they didn’t. So, we had a difference of opinion.”

Turnovers have been an issue all-season for the Mountaineers and Huggins explained on exactly where they can improve in taking care of the ball.

“I’ve told you this before, but I tell you what would be a hell of an improvement, if we just threw it to the guys with the same color shirt we had on and kept it in between the black lines would be a hell of an improvement because we don’t do that very well.” Stated Huggins. “We got to pass the ball and its not just throwing it to them, which we do quite a bit, but we don’t pass it to a guy when they’re open. We miss soo many open guys. Then what happens is, you cut – you’re open – you don’t get the ball, then you cut- you’re open – you don’t get the ball, then the next time you don’t cut near as hard, cause they’re not going to throw the ball to you anyway.”
