Hosting for the first time since 1992, WVU women’s basketball has No. 13 seed Miami (OH) as their first round opponent.
West Virginia comes into the postseason after its best season under head coach Mark Kellogg with a 27-6 regular season record and 14-4 mark in the Big 12. The Mountaineers secured an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament by winning the Big 12 Championship for the first time since 2017.
The Mountaineers also secured the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year for the third straight season with senior guard Jordan Harrison. Guard JJ Quinerly earned the award the past two seasons under Kellogg.
Senior guard Jordan Harrison also spoke to the media following the selection show, saying the Mountaineers are a โdifferent teamโ on their home turf.
โWeโve shown that we can play in front of other peopleโs home crowds, but I think weโre just a different team. We get a lot more energy โฆ but our defense, itโs just a lot more effective at home, so I think weโre a harder team to play at home,โ Harrison said.
