WVU Womenโs Basketball
Poll: How Far Will WVU Women’s Basketball Advance in NCAA Tournament?
For as much as Mark Kellogg and his WVU women’s basketball team has already accomplished an historic season, the pressure is now on them to reach another milestone.
After winning the Big 12 title and earning the right to host, the next step is to get to the WVU women’s first Sweet 16 since that 1992 campaign.
And on the eve of the program hosting its first NCAA Tournament game since 1992, we ask Mountaineer Nation how far they think Kellogg’s team will push it through March.
Our Coverage of the WVU Women in the NCAA Tournament
Despite being no stranger to the tournament, Kellogg said it never gets old to hear your name called on Selection Sunday.
โI think our kids, to their credit, have earned the right to play here. So super excited about that,โ Kellogg said in a press conference after the selection show.โTonight, still your nameโs called, youโre playing in a tournament, you find opponents, dates, those types of things. That will never get old as long as we do it.โ
Kellogg hopes to see the Hope Coliseum packed in support of his Mountaineers.
โWe would love to pack this place. If we can get 14,000 people in here, that would be just a huge reward, and weโll feed off of it. We feed off of the energy. Itโs passionate fan base. We play that way and I just think itโs great for womenโs college basketball, for this area, for our state. Sure. But for all the little kids too that have just grown up, you know, kind of admiring this,โ Kellogg said.
Kellogg, Harrison Discuss the WVU Women’s Home-Court Advantage in NCAA Tournament
Senior guard Jordan Harrison also spoke to the media following the selection show, saying the Mountaineers are a โdifferent teamโ on their home turf.
โWeโve shown that we can play in front of other peopleโs home crowds, but I think weโre just a different team. We get a lot more energy โฆ but our defense, itโs just a lot more effective at home, so I think weโre a harder team to play at home,โ Harrison said.
