Just a few days ago, the West Virginia basketball team was back to “shock the world.” They got the monkey off of their back, which was a seven-game losing streak, with a win over Iowa State on Tuesday. The Mountaineers were brought right back down to Earth on Saturday when Oklahoma State blew them out, 81-58.

The Cowboys out-rebounded the Mountaineers 48-24, while scoring 40 points in the paint. OSU humbled West Virginia in Stillwater on Saturday afternoon. For a team that’s went through a lot of emotions in the past five days, it must be frustrating to not be able to continue the momentum from the great win against the Cyclones.

“It’s rough on us,” WVU guard Malik Curry said after the Oklahoma State game. “Every loss, it weighs on us, especially just coming off a win. We were all happy enjoying life. We’ve got to take it game-by-game.”

Everyone involved with this program, the players, coaches, fans, etc. are all frustrated that this team has gone 1-8 in their last nine games. With the hopes of the NCAA Tournament fading away after every loss, the Mountaineers are going to have to get something going in this stretch of the season. WVU plays Kansas State in Manhattan, KS, on Monday night. It will be an opportunity for a team that has struggled on the road all season to get a must-needed road win.

What will West Virginia have to do to win?

“Play hard. If we play hard, pay attention to scout and stop teams from doing what they do best,” Curry said. “I think it starts with us players listening to the coaching staff and just trying to execute offensively, get stops defensively.”
